Mayor Jim Ferrell is Running for Re-Election to Keep Federal Way Moving Forward

FEDERAL WAY, WA — Mayor Jim Ferrell is seeking re-election to continue delivering results for the people of Federal Way. He’s increasing jobs, reducing crime, and improving quality of life for residents, while keeping things affordable.

“Federal Way is a city on the rise,” said Ferrell. “We’ve made real progress in public safety, economic development, and infrastructure. I’m running to build on that momentum and keep our city moving forward.”

Over the past two years, the city has added 17 new officer positions, bringing Federal Way’s police force to a record 154 budgeted officers. This investment ensures the department has the staffing needed to effectively combat crime and keep neighborhoods safe. Mayor Ferrell also created specialized units focused on dismantling unlawful encampments and targeting high-impact crimes. These efforts are delivering real results: vehicle thefts are down 52%, robberies have dropped 38%, and homicides are down 57%.

The economy is growing, with major employers like Papè Kenworth, Smith Brothers Dairy, All City Fence and Dick’s Drive-In investing in Federal Way. Ferrell has also strengthened support for small businesses through direct engagement and initiatives that make it easier for both new and already established small businesses to succeed.

Federal Way is becoming a true destination city. The Performing Arts and Event Center is now a regional draw for arts and culture. Road overlay projects are improving infrastructure citywide and with 20 acres of prime downtown land under redevelopment, the city is building a more connected, welcoming core – which will be further enhanced by the arrival of light rail next year.

To help residents enjoy clean, safe neighborhoods, Ferrell launched the Eyes on Federal Way app, empowering the public to report graffiti, trash, potholes, and more. Graffiti is now cleaned up within 24 hours, and over 2,000 abandoned shopping carts are removed from city streets each year.

Ferrell’s leadership has also brought smart financial management. The city’s budget is balanced, reserves are fully funded, and an additional $8.5 million in new revenue has been generated this biennium to support public safety, city services, and infrastructure.

And he’s done all this without raising taxes.
